Public Quests.

b9d78_wow_icon Public Quests.I’m not sure how familiar anyone is with Warhammer Online. Basically, it is a game that is very similar to World of Warcraft, however players are able to achieve max level without ever doing anything on their own. And yes, I do realize this is also possible on WoW, however with Warhammer Online it is actually encouraged!

And that’s where the idea for this post came from. Public Quests are unique to Warhammer Online and have caused a lot of discussion in the MMO world. They are quests that trigger when you enter a certain area, and you can choose to take part in them or simply watch from within. Often there will be a few dozen players taking part with you, with everyone helping each other to achieve the over-all goal of completing the quest. Now, since Warhammer Online is a relatively new game, I was wondering if any WoW players would be interested in this?

I know from a personal side that this would certainly be a nice brake from all the gold grinding I have been doing lately. However, if battlegrounds are anything to go by, I think there would be a lot of internal arguing, name calling and hissy fits to witness. Say for instance the quest was failed; It’s never the fault of any of the loud mouths, is it?

I don’t know… It seems like many of these new online games have almost ‘ripped off’ World of Warcraft’s playing style. They simply take everything that is good about WoW, and add their own little spin. They are probably quite pleased with themselves too. However, I have no doubt that Blizzard will get their own back and start borrowing from them. Basically, something that was once unique to Warhammer Online will soon be unique to Warhammer and World of Warcraft.

WoW Public Quests anyone? Who are we kidding, we all know it’s going to happen sooner or later…

The Warhammer Herald delves back into PvE dungeons

The trusty Herald for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has once again delved back into the game’s non-PvP content. Though WAR is built around the massive Realm vs. Realm systems developed by Mythic Entertainment, there are numerous Player vs. Environment options available to gamers who want something a little more traditional. This is actually the third of these guides to roll out to the Warhammer site. The first dealt with low-level treks like the Altdorf sewers and The Sacellum, while the second delved into mid-level dungeons probably very familiar to WAR veterans (Gunbad, Bastion Stair,…

Behind the Curtain: Take a look back

549be_rear_view_resize Behind the Curtain: Take a look backBrace yourself for the obligatory ‘New Year’ post. I’d resolve to lose weight, tone up and be kinder to my fellow man, but I’d be lying. Not because I’m weak and won’t follow through on them, but because I don’t need to. I’m practically perfect in every way.

Except not really. I’m lying. I also hate Mary Poppins with a cold, implacable hatred. But that’s neither here nor there.

It’s been a year of ups and downs in the MMO world. We’ve seen World of Warcraft go from strength to strength with an expansion pack which knocked the socks off of Burning Crusade. Say what you will about Blizzard, but it’s always good to see a company that’s willing and able to learn not only from its past mistakes, but its past successes. We’ve seen the long-awaitied launch of Warhammer Online, but we’ve also seen some downers, with Tabula Rasa going down the tubes, and Fury falling over. Although, not as many people were upset about Fury, given that it was terrible from start to finish.

Refer a friend Warhammer Online Trial Free 7 days

friends-150x150 Refer a friend Warhammer Online Trial Free 7 daysWar is everywhere in Warhammer Online and they’re now looking to expand their army with more recruits by giving away a free 7 day free trial. Well, this trial is not entirely all free. You’ll need a friend who is currently playing to refer you using a key provided monthly, thus each subscriber is limited to referring one friend a month.

In my opinion, you really cannot accomplish much within those 7 days unless you intend to play every second of your life for the next 7 days. Even so, you are more than likely to not even hit 40. The best part of the game is all the way at the end, when you’re 40. There is so much more you can do. They are slowly introducing a small 6 man dungeons for those who are “possibly” tired or RvR. To sum it up, you really have to play more than 7 days to get the most out of the game. Either way, a free trial is better than forking out $30-40. At least you’ll know what you’ll be committing yourself into.

With nearly a million players already at WAR, there should be more than enough trial keys to go around. As much as I would love for everyone to at least try the game once, I do not have any keys to offer. However, feel free to spam your contact and make a new friend using the comment system. I suggest maybe using a dummy email address or something like (name [at] gmail [dot] com) in your comment. I apologize for not being able to offer a better system but Wordpress does have its limits.

Here are some places where you can download the trial client if you know or have already acquired a key.

  • Gamershell The U.S. servers are packed but currently has no wait nor requires registration.
  • Games On Net No registration required, not sure about speed.
  • FilePlanet Requires registration. Offers faster downloads for paying members.
  • ComputerGames The download page is in romanian, can’t really say much about it but its another alternative.

Hope you will all enjoy WAR as much as I do.

New blogging community forms around Warhammer Online

When gamers passionate about their MMO of choice form a close-knit community of bloggers, it provides a collective window into the game that readers wouldn’t be able to get from the major sites alone. A prime example of this is the very active EVE Online blogging community brought together by our friend CrazyKinux, where EVE’s players contribute opinions, tips, even tutorials on a daily basis. Given how successful this has been with EVE Online, why can’t MMO gamers rally around another title? It’s possible that the next blogging community focused on a single MMO title will be based around…

We’re nearing the end of Warhammer Online’s holiday event, Keg End. As several of my friends would tell me, the end of a keg is a sad occasion, but this particular version has been pretty fun. Besides, you have all the great memories of friends and festivities to carry with you until the next keg comes along. Today’s One Shots comes to us from Urbaine Sunspear of The Rose & The Raven guild on EU Karak Eight Peaks. This is his 27 Swordmaster, enjoying the magnificent fireworks display as part of his Warhammer Online holiday celebration. Lucky for us, he captured this image and sent it in…

The impending closure and lack of expected success from Tabula Rasa is not going to deter Richard Garriott from giving the online gaming business another shot. In a recent interview with the BBC, Garriott expressed his intentions to get back into MMO business. “After 25 years at Origin, the last thing I wanted to make was yet another medieval fantasy game,” he said. “Now, after a very interesting break, I’m keen to get back into the fray and work on a new game. Probably medieval fantasy and probably online; there’s something very powerful about getting people together.” Also in this…

Guide to Bastion Stairs

One of the high end dungeons in Warhammer where the Bloodlord set is found. You can go through the instance on the most bottom right corner of Chaos Wastes or you can run up from Praag. The coordinates for the entrance is 64487, 63406 on the Chaos Wastes map. Before you can actually do any of the bosses here you must have enough influence points from the Public Quests in side the instance. If you’ve done Gunbad then you should be familiar with it. There are three portals you can take and it will vary in difficulty of the mobs and bosses. All three portals three public quests in them.

Left Portal - Trail of Carnage
Level: 33+
Boss: Thar’lgnan 1 bar influence
Loot: Bloodlord Boots
Public Quests:
1.Rise of Carnage
2.Bloodherd Labryinth
3.Trail of Carnage

Right Portal - Path of Fury
Level: 35+
Boss:Lord Slaurith 2 bar influence
Loot: Bloodlord Shoulders
Public Quests:
1.Fury’s Ascent
2.Halls of Rage
3.Path of Fury

Middle - Steps of Ruin
Level: 37+
Boss: Kaarn the Vanquisher Full influence
Loot: Bloodlord Helm
Public Quests:
1. Step of Anger
2. Step of Hatred
3. The Brass Legion

For the fourth place, the Rift of Rage is after Steps of Ruin, this is where Skull Lord Var’Ithrok is and he drops chest and gloves. To get into the portal you need to be attuned and the quest you need are:
1: Blood on the Steps
2: Leashing the Bull
3: Infinite Patience
4: Vanquishing the Skull Lord

This shouldn’t be hard to find a group since a lot of players are still in their mid 30’s and some are 40’s that are still doing this. I say when you are about level 35 or so you should start running the first portal and start getting your influence up because most groups won’t run with you if you don’t have either 1 bar or 2 bars of influence filled up.

Good Luck

Yes, you didn’t blink when you read the title. Of course, the award was made by Alex Litel of “Bell, Game, and Candle” at GameSetWatch and it’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it really shows how connected Jacobs is with all of the Warhammer Online hype. Litel’s article showcases the many press release quotes that just make you tilt your head in confusion and wonder why exactly someone wrote that for marketing purposes. Quotes such as Cliffy B calling the original Gears of War “…just a tease, an appetizer to Gears of War characters and new style of gameplay” just to ramp up marketing for…

Warhammer Online’s dev team is at it again with part two of their three-part guide on the PvE dungeons. This article gives us just a slight overview of four PvE dungeons and what they’re all about, without giving spoilers. These four dungeons are Gunbad Tunnels, Bastion Stair, Warpblade Tunnels, and Bloodwrought Enclave. Each dungeon is broken down into a description of the entrance, a general theme and then some amusingly lore-tastic quotes from what would be the inhabitants of each area. Check out this dungeon guide, the previous part one and look forward to the final installment coming…
