One Shots: Fireworks for the fanciers
Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Warhammer Online, One Shots
We’re nearing the end of Warhammer Online’s holiday event, Keg End. As several of my friends would tell me, the end of a keg is a sad occasion, but this particular version has been pretty fun. Besides, you have all the great memories of friends and festivities to carry with you until the next keg comes along. Today’s One Shots comes to us from Urbaine Sunspear of The Rose & The Raven guild on EU Karak Eight Peaks. This is his 27 Swordmaster, enjoying the magnificent fireworks display as part of his Warhammer Online holiday celebration. Lucky for us, he captured this image and sent it in…

The winner of the Mark Jacobs Award for Corporate Community Achievement is…
Filed under: Culture, MMO industry, Opinion, Humor
Yes, you didn’t blink when you read the title. Of course, the award was made by Alex Litel of “Bell, Game, and Candle” at GameSetWatch and it’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but it really shows how connected Jacobs is with all of the Warhammer Online hype. Litel’s article showcases the many press release quotes that just make you tilt your head in confusion and wonder why exactly someone wrote that for marketing purposes. Quotes such as Cliffy B calling the original Gears of War “…just a tease, an appetizer to Gears of War characters and new style of gameplay” just to ramp up marketing for…

WAR’s PvE Dungeon Guide part two
Filed under: Fantasy, Game mechanics, Warhammer Online, PvE
Warhammer Online’s dev team is at it again with part two of their three-part guide on the PvE dungeons. This article gives us just a slight overview of four PvE dungeons and what they’re all about, without giving spoilers. These four dungeons are Gunbad Tunnels, Bastion Stair, Warpblade Tunnels, and Bloodwrought Enclave. Each dungeon is broken down into a description of the entrance, a general theme and then some amusingly lore-tastic quotes from what would be the inhabitants of each area. Check out this dungeon guide, the previous part one and look forward to the final installment coming…

One Shots: Festive Keg End fireworks
Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Warhammer Online, One Shots
Some folks don’t go in for all that Christmas stuff, and prefer instead to utilize explosives and ale. (Kind of like that American 4th of July thing, but with colder weather.) Today’s Warhammer Online One Shots is from just one such reveler, Thalired. Apparently this brave adventurer not only decided to have a drink as part of the Keg End celebration, but then wandered into the Shadowlands and set off this great big starburst firework. If the mobs nearby didn’t know there was someone to munch on before, they do now! But hey, that seems like it would make for a very exciting holiday, no? If…

One Shots: Traffic jam!
Filed under: Fantasy, Screenshots, Warhammer Online, One Shots
We’d heard about some graphical glitches occurring in Warhammer Online, but this one kind of takes the cake in terms of what we’ve seen so far. (After all, what’s the competition by and large - naked Dwarves?) Today’s glitchy One Shots comes to us from Bossmoney Playahprez, who simply notes himself as Lvl 40 ironbreaker. Bossmoney writes: Because of a graphic bug in Warhammer Online, sometimes a mount will still remain after the rider has already left it. When there’s a few hundred players trying to enter an enemy fortress at one time, that can leave behind A lot of mounts. Having never seen…

Get your friends and go to WAR: Mythic offers recruit-a-friend program
Filed under: Fantasy, Business models, Warhammer Online, News items
When Christmas comes and you want to find the very best present, let your friends and family go to WAR with you! Warhammer Online has just thrown open the gates to its own recruit-a-friend program, letting current subscribers send out free 14 day trials to anyone they wish. The only catch to the program is that you get a limited number of invites. Initially you get three for being a subscriber and then you receive one new invite each month to a maximum of six. If your buddy converts his trial account to a full account by buying the game, then you get the standard 30 days free. Mythic’s…

Bruce Maclean’s WAR dev diary is crazy but awesome
Filed under: Fantasy, Patches, Warhammer Online
The latest Warhammer Online developer diary is up on the official site, and we’ve got to say, Bruce Maclean’s eccentricity is infectious. The subject of this dev diary is an explanation of Mythic’s patching schedule, which could well have been a very boring topic, but if you visit the page you’ll soon see that Bruce is just brimming with AWESOME! HOT! FIXES! and SEXY! COOL! NEW! FEATURES! that he simply must share with the WAR-playing world. It sounds like Community Coordinator Missy Hatch had a hard time getting Bruce to cough up his input to the dev diary series — she’d been chasing it up…

WAR’s Mark Jacobs on fixes and holiday experience bonuses
Filed under: Fantasy, Bugs, Game mechanics, Patches, Warhammer Online, News items
Fans of Warhammer Online will have noted a great deal of patching over the past few weeks. In fact, even the patches needed some patching. Some major issues Mythic Entertainment has been working to fix are the frequent crashes-to-desktop and other lockups players have been reporting. The latest word from Mythic’s Mark Jacobs is that the client crashes have been drastically reduced, down by 75% (in North America). In fact, client crashes are now at their lowest point ever, either in development or since Warhammer Online went live, Jacobs said. But he wasn’t writing to the Warhammer Online…

Drunk and disorderly in Warhammer’s Keg End holiday event
Filed under: Fantasy, Events, in-game, Warhammer Online, Humor
“Keg End is here, with the mud and the blood and the beer!!”
It seems that most of the major MMO titles have gotten into the holiday spirit, including Warhammer Online with its Dwarf New Year’s festival of Keg End. The event begins today, December 17th and continues through to January 5th. We knew a bit about Keg End before. Namely how it seemed to be an in-game event where it’s perfectly OK to act like a violent drunk with a burning desire to blow things up, and then brag about it (with some new emotes). Well, Keg End promises to be all that and more, given the event info Mythic…

WAR Grab Bag No. 6: oRvR, Easy PQs, and dungeons
Filed under: Fantasy, Game mechanics, PvP, Grouping, Warhammer Online, PvE
The latest edition of Warhammer Online’s Grab Bag feature is up, and as well as a question-and-answer segment, we are treated to the first part of a feature on PvE dungeons, written by content developer Gary Astelford. A couple of the questions are directed at Open RvR; we’re told to keep an eye out for some changes that will “make zone control more intuitive and rewarding” in the future. The new Easy PQ system is also asked about, and we learn that although the influence bonus for getting to the next stage of a PQ will be less (past Stage 2), all other influence gains are the same as a normal…
