Great Holiday Games

Everyone either knows a gamer or has one in the family. Now is the perfect time to show that you really appreciated all of the free tech support that he has given you over the years. Here are some great games that will surely make every gamer feel appreciated:

****Left 4 Dead: The zombie apocalypse is here! In order to survive it you will need plenty of ammo and great allies to help you survive. This game has great co-op and multiplayer with 4 human players being the survivors and 4 players being the infected. There are only 5 different levels but the experience is always different and each time you play through it zombies will not always be in the same place.

*****Medieval 2 Total War: Kingdoms: The Crusades never looked and felt so real. This is a great expansion pack to an excellent game. This game has great graphics and good controls. This is deffinately a good buy for anyone who you know likes RTS (Real Time Strategy) games and who already have the first game. If they don’t have the first game then here is a link to the gold version of the game: Medieval 2 Total War: Gold Edidion. It is a really good game and I enjoy playing it a lot.

******World in Conflict: Collectors Edition: The cold war never ended. Russia has envaded western Europe and the US has decided to send all of their troops over to fight in europe. What they didn’t expect was for the Russians to invade the western US. This game is a great game with good visuals and excelent gameplay. In this game you aren’t building up bases or recruting units on the feild. Instead everything is brought to you via plane drops. This makes for very interesting play. With the collectors edition you get special dvds and also you get your very own piece of the berlin wall.

*****Too Human: Norse mythology is really cool and this game is based off of it but with a twist. It’s in the future! This is a great RPG (Role Playing Game) with great control schemes and good visuals. There is also a wide veriety of equiment to equipt your character with. This is a great game for anyone who likes a good classic norse story.

*****Rock Band 2: The game that started the whole multi instrument band thing is back and is better than ever! With many new songs and all of the original songs to play over and over again this game has great replayability value. This time around you can go online with your friends and play in a world were you are an incoming band that is looking to get it’s paws on some fame. All and all this is a great game to enjoy with the whole family.

*****EndWar: We thought that WMD sheilds would make world peace a reality but instead it just made wars worse. Now three empires fight for global dominance. This is an awesome game that I love to play the demo of. It encorporates voice controll and it has great graphics. It also already has new extra content on xbox live to download.

BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]One of the first panels I attended was the Diablo III Class Design talk
featuring Jay Wilson and other members of the D3 team. We had just
witnessed the unveiling of the brand spankin’ new Wizard class so this
panel promised to give us a sneak peak behind the newest defender of
Sanctuary as well as other behind the scenes information. They talked
about the skill system and how animations and graphics feed back into
making a class shine.

BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

The D3 designers want to give players that glass cannon that so many of them love. Sure it can blow things to pieces but get in their face and they aren’t exactly the sturdiest of heroes. The Wizard is for that player who looks at the character selection screen and says, “I want to blow stuff up.” For those Diablo 2 fans out there, this is an iteration on the fan favorite Sorceress class but with a different focus. Rather than summoning the elemental powers of Fire, Ice, and Lightning, a Wizard uses what Blizzard is calling “High Magic.” This involves channeling the raw forces of the universe. The designers described the powers warping the laws of physics, weather control, and even time control to lay waste to foes. They even went into detail of the history of the Wizard. “She didn’t study for her Conjuration class… but she aced it,” one developer joked. “Her teachers said, ‘Don’t study that, it’s forbidden.’ So she said, ‘That’s what I want to learn.’ We’ll have to see if that gets her into trouble down the line.” Take a look at how she looks in the preview video and you can see how this plays into character design.

BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

They showed off a few skills for the Wizard. Magic Missile, a fantasy classic and very useful for shooting into the darkness, is the first spell a Wizard uses. In raw numbers terms, it’s not much different than a Fireball or Ice Bolt but the designers explained that even a simple choice like this has design implications down the road. Players expect a Fireball spell to upgrade into burning damage or an explosion, an Ice Bolt slowing foes or freezing them. A Magic Missile, however, fires more and more bolts as it increases in power or starts homing in on targets. By starting from here, more skills start to come into view as the design evolves.

The other Wizard skills detailed were:
Electrocute - Part of the weather control power set, it’s like a beefed up Chain Lightning spell that bounces electricity from target to target.
Slow Time - This is the bubble that the Wizard uses in the preview video. Time control isn’t something you see often in RPG games, especially multiplayer. They originally wanted the slow to be gamewide but the implications for multiplayer seemed pretty un-fun. As it stands, it’s a great defensive power that really makes the Wizard feel powerful.
Disintegrate - Another pen and paper RPG classic, this powerful spell rarely makes it into computer RPGs. It began it’s life as a Barbarian skill called great swing. The idea was for the player to hold down the mouse button and build up a big attack. For the barbarian though, it ended up not being very fun. Monsters would shoot the player from range, well meaning friends would kill the foe before he got too close, etc. On the Wizard, however, holding down the button and sweeping firey death across the battlefield is pretty fun. As the spell hits a single target, it “heats up” doing more and more damage.

BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

The next bit of the panel was about the skill system. They went through a ton of iterations. I chose one of the craziest above to show you that they really considered everything. They have a saying at Blizzard though, “Different but worse isn’t better, better is better.” This brought them back to something a little closer to those who’ve played Diablo II. Check it out:
BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

On the left of each tier, you can see active skills. These are just like the kind of abilities you spend points on in Diablo II. To the right, you can see passive skills that allow you to beef up your abilities without adding too many actions to your bar. They want to keep that Diablo feel of fast clicking action rather than something like World of Warcraft where you need at least a dozen skills. Now what are those little circles under the active skills you ask? Why, those are Rune slots of course!
BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

For those who can remember way back to the original Diablo, skills dropped from books. They liked the way this mirrored the random drop feel of items but it was too random. Runes are a middle ground between D1 and D2. The runes aren’t class specific and can be put in any skill. The trick is that each skill changes differently depending on what rune you put into it. A lethality rune makes Electrocute cause foes it kills to explode and damage everything around it. Also as pointed out many times, explosions are cool; cheers showed that they were right when they said, “we have our finger on the pulse of the Diablo community.” Multi-strike causes the Witch Doctor’s Flame Skull to skip across the ground before exploding and the Wizard’s teleport spell to create duplicates of the caster to confuse foes.

BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel [BlizzCon 08: Diablo III Class Design Panel]

After covering classes, the technical effects designer talked a bit about player skills and monster deaths. Each class has their own feel: Barbarians display great physical power, Witch Doctor’s use various voodoo items and swarms to damage foes, and the Wizard was described in two words: Light Show. All of these help add a visceral feel to playing Diablo. Of course one of the best parts of Diablo is watching hordes of monsters die before you. They added basic physics to monsters so they would fall as they were cut down but didn’t stop there. Critcial deaths can occur with crushing swings, exploding with blood. Different damage types leave monsters in pieces or glowing with purple energy. Disintegrate leaves nothing behind and swarm leave only bones. All of this plays into the fun of Diablo: battling the minions of the Lord of Terror and mowing down his hordes.

All in all, Diablo III is looking like a great edition to the Diablo series. It still looks a ways off at this point but what I’ve seen so far makes me quite excited.

Are you excited about Diablo III? What class are you going to play? Let us know what you think!

Star Trek Online Game in the works for PC Launch This Spring!

Anytime a new online game is developed there is always
a question of how well it will fit the expectations of the fans.
Everyone has his or her own vision of how the game will look.
One hurdle for the developers is that the fan base is so wide.
The original Star Trek with Scotty and Spock started over forty years ago.
Since then we have had several different series and many movies to
widen he fan base. Fan boys want the most realistic graphics and gaming
that can be achieved. No one wants to be upset especially after
the long wait they have endured for Star Trek Online.

There are a few things that have not been decided yet but as they
continue to create the game these things will be decided and posted
on the official site. One of the things that have not been decided
yet is the fee structure. Cryptic Studios has not decided if they
are going to have the subscription fee that is the norm for most
online rpgs. They have also not finalized the system requirements.
The would like this game to be played on the Xbox 360 but they also have
to consider the game graphics and how well it runs on certain systems.
One of the hopes is that PC and console players will be able to
play on the same servers. They don’t foresee any problem with this since the platform is already there.

Starting with in the next month or so Cryptic Studios is going to
continually update their website to bring fans up to date (ie. Star Trek Online Characters).
The site will have a year-by-year timeline. The calendar will provide fans with
updates on what has been going on since the last movie. It will give them
an idea of what has been going on for the past 30 years when the
game comes out. This way there will be no questions as to what is
going on when the rpg starts.

The Star Trek Online Game should not let down even the most
particular fan boys. With the updates and the site they should be ready
to jump in and play when the game is released.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

I finally got my copy of the game at the weekend, played a little, got the patch, found my save games were incompatible, restarted, and replayed (sigh) a little more. It’s an interesting game, full of interesting ideas and sometimes exasperating combat. Surprisingngly, given the level of buginess so evident (and definitely not addressed by that patch) it’s a good game overall. So it gets a thumbs up from me, with a sidenote that you should have a pretty decent rig to really get the most out of the game, and should have a certain tolerance for the inevitable bug or two.

Even so, there are some spectacular misses. Gameplay stands by itself very well, so these aren’t as important as they would be to a lesser First-Person Shooter, but still… The most obvious is that the settings menu for Video Options is a mess - Antialiasing and Anistrophy are non-existent. One is simply not working, the other is useless because STALKER’s game engine uses a weird rendering system that doesn’t support it. I’ve been reading the TweakGuide.com examination released earlier and all is not lost - there are tweaks you can make since the game is capable of being modded by extracting the content archives (much like Oblivion and Medieval 2). TweakGuide also comments on the effectiveness of some low-level options (which don’t seem to work better than the “medium” ones). Also HDR, important for GeForce 6 series GPU’s, is not a separate setting to be disabled.

Back to the game play - STALKER excels at a few graphical additions (even with the above). The most obvious is the weather. When it rains, it pours. When it let’s loose lightening, your video card takes notice. The second is the day/night cycle - and night is something to really take care with. Unlike Oblivion, or other half-assed attempts at day/night cycles, STALKER just takes the realistic of approach of making the sun set and rise at genuine times. Simple, effective. Half Life 2: Episode One (the level with the underground garage populated by Zombies) is a close match for how you’ll feel when night arrives. Even bumping up the gamma level doesn’t help with visibility. Even the flash light isn’t much help beyond a certain range. This really packs a cool punch - especially when you have to spend the next 7 hours of gametime (a lot less in real time of course ;-)) stumbling around in the dark hearing the howls of a pack of mutant dogs and barely being able to see them when get close. Sychronising attacks with lightening strikes becomes a quickly learned skill ;-).

The other cool thing is the “ALife”, watching mother nature at war with packs of Blind Dog mutants run into confrontations with those mutant boars around this corner, or something even weirder around another - all at random in a natural fashion. It’s cool to watch - especially once you realise those creatures have defining habits. At the start, I remember finding the body of a fellow Stalker surrounded by mutant dogs. After shooting up two, and scattering the rest I returned some hours later to find the escapees of my first attack had returned to the body and were apparently ravaging it - and their dead compatriots. I almost felt sorry for the poor sod whose pixelated body was being gnawed on, I was even tempted to use the “drag body” action to move him to a place safe from the local man-eating wildlife.

A few places where it goes wrong includes the mission system. Missions are obviously not finished in full - most are given by a handful of Traders, or Stalker leaders. Most come with no other in-game scenery, events, or NPC interaction other than the text descriptions. Oblivion was far better - of course Oblivion has voice overs for ALL the text which made it more immersive to start with. This lack of gloss in some areas, and the opposite in others is a sad thing - finished this game would have hit a few 90%+ marks in reviews, rather than the telling 80%+ it seems to be getting.

Overall, it’s flawed and buggy, but that’s easily forgiven once you jump into unique action. My score? I’d go with an 85% and hope it prods future FPS’s to new levels of originality. Read more

The Xbox 360 is one of the most popular gaming solutions on the market today. The days of old 2 dimensional video games are long past. The rise in popularity of this gaming console means that it is now a very competitive game to play. The competition may be with the gaming community or even at home with the family. Regardless of who you are competing with most gamers just want to win. It doesn’t matter that the amount of skills to win haven’t been accumulated yet. Even a less skillful player who still doesn’t know their way around the gaming console has the ability to win by using cheat codes.

Xbox 360 Codes
Cheat codes are a system designed to allow the player either defeat the enemy in a game or complete higher levels in games that a player hasn’t already accumulated the credits for or done what is required by the game to move up a level. For Xbox 360 users they provide a shortcut to playing a winning game t.

Xbox 360 Elite
When a game is designed the developer includes these easter eggs or cheat codes in the game. There are two reasons for this, firstly, it is fun for the user to try and find them and secondly, once found them can make the game more exciting and accessible to every player who wants to play to win.

If a game is developed where it is too hard to win or where the enemy is much more powerful than the player’s avatar, very few players would return to the game. It would become boring and no longer interesting to play. Like most things, players also want to know what happens next. The thrill of getting to the next level in a game and finding out the new challenges of the game are what playing is all about.

Some of the methods used can include, depending on the game, making your player invincible, gaining extra weapons or gold, or having an unlimited supply of ammunition. Cheat guides make it possible for every player to win at the game.

Xbox 360 Walk Throughs
Some players hire people to play games for them to build up their score and progression just so that they can get to the next level. Others use them to fast forward the gaming process. Using cheat codes allows you to win, progress through the game and build up your confidence in your gaming abilities.

Cheat codes are widely used by players and can be bought cheaply and easily on the internet. Before you rush out and buy them you must carefully consider the source of the them. Unfortunately, some have been embedded with viruses or malware, which can harm your gaming console or even reveal your private data to the seller of the cheat code file. Some can even take over your computer so it can be used by the originator.

The other thing to keep in mind before you buy is that sometimes if you visit the website of the game the developers will reveal some for you for free.

Take some time to learn about cheat codes before you download it as rushing in to buy the latest thing may affect your computer, the ability to save games on your computer or make your game unstable. You may download a malicious code which is designed to attack a particular type of gaming system such as Xbox, Xbox 360 or Sony Playstation 2.

If you are convinced that buying a cheat code will enhance your game then educate yourself on the source and the effect of them on your system before you buy.

If you enjoy playing XBox 360 keep up to date with all the x-box news and events at XboxPlayers.com.

The more graphic the effects, the better. All of the video game makers are now competing to get the most sales, and that forces them to use the newest technology. With characters that come almost nearly to life, the gamers are bombarded with details that lead others to believe they would rather not see - too much blood for example. Places like walmart get these games off their shelves as fast as they can stock them, but it leaves some people saying that the games are too violent?

Naturally, there are two opposing sides on this question. On the first hand there are people who believe that video games are ok the way they are. Their reason is that discipline depends on the player and that this would determine up to what extent the influence could be. It is a battle of self-control and putting things in the right perspective. If people get more violent after a few hours of gaming then maybe it’s their lack of dicipline, rather than the game causing the problems.

On the other hand however, this point is the same argument as those who believe that video games are too violent. The powerful emotional response is brought on by the action and effects that is so realistic that people cant detach themselves from it. Reality can only be shown as how things are, while it is sometimes exagerated, it really need to be based on real life.

Both sides do have a valid point, although this still does not answer the question whether video games are violent or not. The debate can go on, but to be helpful to gamers, there are several ways with which any retaining effects can be prevented. First is to allot a specific time of the day and limit the number of hours you play|Firstly everyone should have a maximum number of hours dedicated to video games every day|To start our everyone should pick a upper limit for how much they will play games daily[/spin]. Games like this target people who have a hard time drawing a line between reality and the game world. Following a schedule will help you learn that discipline.

Secondly is to know when enough is enough. As soon as you find yourself too highly involved in the death of a character or in a loss against an opponent, breathe. Not only does it clear your mind, it helps your body normalize as well after the surge of adrenaline. Third is for parents, who are allowing their kids to play video games. At a young age, discipline should already be imbibed at this crucial formative stage. Once a child has been affected then the effects are hard to remove, so parents need to be vigilant. If you want a game that is fun and not overly violent then you should think about legend of zelda for sale namely cheap twilight princess or legend of zelda for sale.

Objectivity may be hard when broaching the subject of violence and technology might be too diverse to understand. What can be said for certain is that you need to understand video games to determine if they are too violent.

Effect Of Video Games

Computers have greatly affected the people in this generations. Research shows that it is gaining popularity and the percentage of adults and children who are playing video games are increasing in numbers. In fact Video games nowadays develop rapidly and produce in bulks because it is in demand in market. In 2005 video game market reached nearly $10.5 billion in sales.
Video games were purposely mad for children to have fun but it shows that adults were more addicted in video games than kids. The earliest example was in 1947, where the idea for a “Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device” was conceived by Thomas T. goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann. Video games were then developed in 1971 for fun and amusement. At this time kids playing video games were increasing while kids who were playing baseball and other outdoor games are decreasing in numbers. Because of the fact that kids were sometimes overly exposed to UV rays from the displays plugged to their computers kids develop bad vision causing them to wearLarge Reading Glasses at an early age.
Most of the video game consumers had become dependent on these computers to the point that they have become socially isolated and shy and worst turned them into couch potatoes resulting into obessity. Aside from that games, it can cause kids or adults to develop aggressive behaviors. Although it were designed for amusement and fun, games nowadays are becoming more real sometimes portraying real life situation with mature content such as sex and violence.
Not all Video games were designed for fun and amusement but also they were used by the military as an instrument of developing skills and experience in combat training and simulation. This technology allows user to interact with computer-simulated environment real or imagined. Most of the virtual reality environment are primarily visual experiences, displayed either on a computer screen or through specialized stereoscopic display similar to a Sunglasses or an oversized Reading Glasses but some includes additional sensory information like sound and other tactile information such as force feedback allowing the user to have a feel of the unreal environment with the use of application to immerse the user in the 3d world.
Though children’s social behavior may have been greatly affected by this technology but somehow it has created some positive effects like kids exposed to computer technology develop skills in following instructions, spatial and motor skills, problem solving and logic while having fun. As parents you should carefully monitor what video games your children are playing the same way you monitor them what program they watch on a television.

Xunlai Tournaments

Something I’ve never been involved in that much in Guild Wars has been the regular monthly tournaments that take place. These used to be a bit of manual thing, required sign up well in advance, and it always seemed like too much hassle.

However, the Xunlai tournaments are now totally automated, and last weekend I swung round the Xunlai Tournament House, and spoke to Xunlai Agent Kun Shao to see what’s what.

88656612-10C3-4943-BFE8-D5FB29C26358.jpg

The best bit about the automated Xunlai Tournaments is that you don’t have to be any good at PvP - you can make predictions on which players or Guilds will win, and then win prizes. Of course, you can take part in the automated tournaments if PvP is your thing, but for starters I thought I’d sign up, place some predictions, and see how things went.

You can sign up to the Tournament House here. I’d recommend all Guild Wars players give it a go - it costs nothing, is a laugh, and some of the Zaishen Rewards are pretty good - especially with an eye out to boosting any Title Tracks to gain a boost in Guild Wars 2. Sign up today and give it a go!

On the left of each tier, you can see active skills. These are just like the kind of abilities you spend points on in Diablo II. To the right, you can see passive skills that allow you to beef up your abilities without adding too many actions to your bar. They want to keep that Diablo feel of fast clicking action rather than something like World of Warcraft where you need at least a dozen skills. Now what are those little circles under the active skills you ask? Why, those are Rune slots of course!
