Urban exploration in Age of Conan

Free running and urban exploration in virtual worlds have both taken off significantly in recent years. Players can be seen clambering around buildings and jumping between the rooftops in games from World of Warcraft to Everquest 2 and Funcom’s Age of Conan is no different. Like a lot of players, I found myself eventually having to make my own fun after a while. For me, that meant finding my way onto the rooftops and jumping between them like a maniac. In this visual article, I find myself on the rooftops and back alleys of two cities in Age of Conan and see things from a perspective that most players will never see first hand.

Todays Youths and Violence in Games.
Yes as gamers we all know that Video games along side music and the internet are the scapegoats for the violent behaviour of the youths in our community. Lets just point out and scream and blame instead of holding back and thinking about it for a second. Yes there are mature content in video games much like all other medias. No I don’t believe in having restrictions on how far developers want to make a game violent, gory, sexual or whatever explicit content. We don’t have these barriers on movies, but everyone breaks into a riot when a video game does? Double standards maybe? This is going to be closely tied into my previous post about the topic as a whole really and yes, there has been many protocols in place to censor the games and make sure that the games are distributed properly and yet the people are still in arms.
The video games with mild violence are the modern equivalent of the 50-60s Indians vs. Cowboys or the 80-90s Cops & Robbers. But let’s take a look at the Cops vs Robbers game, here we have kids forming a gun-like shape with their hands or have a plastic replica to shoot down their friends. These actions potentially have an effect on the children before they play, while they are playing, and the affects after they played the game. I find that those games are strong forms of acting out violence, but nothing really spawned from those kinds of games. Ask you parents ask your grand parents, because anyone can take anything out of context like I just did and make it seem so vile. People recently have an issue with violence in video games, but are we that naive? Violent games have existed far before video games came along.
Kids at the age of around 5 - 6 they shouldn’t have developed a strong care about things like video games it doesn’t factor unless the Parent brings it into their home. Also in this age group kids are fairly developed in terms of being able to tell from reality and unreality. After all they should be doing quite a bit of pretending and using their imagination with stuff like arts, comics, animations, and etc. Not saying all youths develop the same but for the average child they should be able to diversify between the two in that age group. Cause what are video games for the most part? It’s a physical extension of another person(s) creativity and imagination.
In addition Developers and Publishers don’t produce games that are graphic for youths that are younger 16 especially 10 and under. Those games that come out have certain age group ratings conducted by the ESRB. The Developers only make certain games with certain content depending on their intended target audience. If the Parents are buying these games regardless then who is at fault? It’s the same as parents taking their youths to the 18a+ movies, but that seems to be more accepted in our society.
Video games are no different from a movie, a television show, the news/newspaper, or content on the internet. In fact I’ve seen some terribly shocking things on the news and the newspapers that are far worst than a video game. Seriously though, If you fear the nature of these Medias then take the actions to censor them from your kids and educate them about them. Don’t just shield them from it, give them the mental tools to deal with the media and what they will see and experience from them. Cause I believe that we all agree that what happens outside your front door (or sometimes indoors) is far more influential than a virtual game.
Basically what I’m trying to say is that video games have a minuscule impact on a violent person’s motivation to be violent. If that youth is violent analyze the youth’s environment (home/school), how he was raised, the people he/she interacts with, the emotional and psychological stability of that kid. When ever a kid does something terrible and, oh wow, they played Medal of Honor everyone goes wild. People just want a scapegoat for the fact that many of these kind of youths go unnoticed, or ignored and no one wants to take responsibility for not acknowledging the troubled kid and getting him/her some help. This is no different to how people reacted to the Teens involved in Columbine Tragedy listened to Manson and everyone pointed the finger of blame at him. No one is a puppet, Manson didn’t guide them or force them to do anything that they would have done on their own and video games are on the same level.

Din Din smiled with delight when Eruv came over to join her. “ Hello m’dear, how nice to see you, ” she said to her friend. ” Sort of,” she responded as Eruv pointed over at her brother Torni. “ We have met briefly. I recognize him and know his name at least.” She grinned a little sheepishly at how few people she knew. ” Is he going to join us as well Eruv?” she asked to cover her slight embarrassment.
The wizardess smiled at Celebrian and said, ” I believe you were speaking to me? I don’t think we have met either. My my name is DinUinen. Or Din or Din Din if you prefer. Well met indeed.”
Din smiled with delight once more when told she was welcome and so said to Scary, ” Yes, my trip here was very nice, thank you. Quiet as usual.”
As the conversation went on Dinny caught something about Scary going to the Libraries of Isengard. She grinned at Eruv and said, ” Perhaps I can con…I mean persude him to join us there. She turned back to Scary with a grin that was a little self-mocking and she said, ” You should come you know. Darling Eruv forgot to mention the wonderful company. As she said, I am the new co-librarian.” She wasn’t sure but the hobbit seemed a little apprehensive about going. ” Perhaps the long journey daunts you. You could always travel back with me.” She wasn’t troubled by traveling alone. She was a wizard after all and was used to being alone.
While Din waited for the replies she sipped the liquor that had been delivered not to long ago by Barliman.
Read moreWhat do I need to fly *XXX* ship well? A "definitive" guide - by Jack Airron
Originally by: F’nog
I’m getting a little tired of seeing all the “What skills do I need to fly this ship properly” threads, so I’m borrowing from Sarmaul and writing this handy guide. Most people asking these questions seem to be under the assumption that they need a couple skills to fly something well. Unfortunately that’s not the case. So here are the skills you’ll want to train with some reasons why:
Skills useful for all ships (very high priority - should be trained to a minimum of IV):
Electronics (fit more stuff)Engineering (fit more stuff)
Energy Management (more cap/use MAPC)
Energy Systems Operation (cap regenerates quicker)
Shield Management (more shields - harder to kill)
Shield Operations (regenerate shield quicker)Mechanic (more structure - harder to kill)
Hull Upgrades (more armor - harder to kill)Navigation (fly faster)
Evasive Maneuvering (turn quicker)
Warp Drive Ops (warp farther)Spaceship Command (turn quicker)
Skills useful for combat ships (high priority - train to at least III):
*Drones*
Drones (use drones)
Scout Drone Ops (use combat drones)
Drone support skills*Electronics*
Long Range Targeting (target farther)
Signature Analysis (target quicker)
Targeting (target more ships)*Engineering*
Energy Grid Upgrades (use PDS, RCU)*Gunnery and/or Missile Launcher Ops (depends on race)*
Gunnery/Missile Launcher Ops (see above)
All Support Gunnery/Missile skills (as above)
Weapons Upgrades (fit more stuff)
Advanced Weapons Upgrades (fit more stuff)*Mechanic*
Repair Systems (don’t have to pay to repair ships)*Navigation*
Acceleration Control (go faster w/AB/MWD)
Afterburner (go faster)
Fuel Conservation (use less cap)
High Speed Maneuvering (use MWDs)Add to these the prereqs for the ship you want to fly and the weapons you’ll use (T2 is a good aim too) plus the tanking skills, armor or shield, and you’re set to start using them. But only actual experience with them will really make you a proficient pilot.
when i looked at the title of this thread i thought i was going to see some eve ships nude : (

Patches pose a problem for DC Universe Online cross-platform play
Filed under: Super-hero, Launches, New titles, Patches, News items, DC Universe Online
DC Universe Online Creative Director Chris Cao told MTV’s Multiplayer blog that SOE hopes to support cross-platform play between PlayStation 3 and PC DCUO players, but isn’t ready to commit to it just yet.Cao said that cross-platform play is still high on the priority list, but no definite promise has been made because delivering game updates to PS3 users is a very different process than delivering them to PC users. SOE is still trying to figure out how to do simultaneous updates on both platforms. We’ve heard about this problem before, of course. Funcom is facing something similar as it works…

WarCry interview sheds more light on Jumpgate Evolution
Filed under: Sci-fi, Jumpgate Evolution, Interviews, New titles
One of the most hotly anticipated sci-fi MMOs on the horizon is Jumpgate Evolution. Despite the videos, screenshots, and bits of fiction that NetDevil has been releasing to stoke interest in the game, some questions remain unanswered — particularly in terms of continuity with Jumpgate’s previous incarnation and how they plan to differentiate themselves from competing MMOs in the genre. To that end, WarCry has done a Q&A with Hermann Peterscheck, the Producer of Jumpgate Evolution. The interview touches on the challenges faced in the development process and the game’s relatively low system…
